Play Tennis: Community Sports Resume – Victorian COVID Restrictions

Victoria has reached the 80% double dose milestone! And this means that restrictions have eased for Community Tennis and Competitions.

After confirmation from Council , Mill Park Tennis Club is now operating as per below restrictions, thank you to all members and guests for their patience

Tennis as a community sport can return across Victoria for the minimum number required (singles and doubles play permitted) at indoor and outdoor facilities.

  • If the premises is only open for community sport, you do not need to be fully vaccinated, or confirm vaccination status or comply with venue density limits.
  • The definition of community sport is all community sport playing activities that are authorised by the State Sporting Association. For tennis, this includes on court activities i.e. coaching, competitions, tournaments, training/social play and court hire.
  • Clubhouses can open:
    • If the clubhouse is open for the purpose of community sport only, you do not need to be fully vaccinated, or confirm vaccination status or comply with venue density limits.
    • Spectators are permitted subject to public gathering limits in the Stay Safe Directions No.28, in groups of no more than 30 (multiple groups must be spaced out).
    • Shared equipment must be cleaned between users.

 

The rules for PLAYERS / PARTICIPANTS / SPECTATORS

  • Everyone attending a tennis club must continue to Check-in via the Service Victoria QR code app.
  • Face masks are required in indoor spaces only for ages 12+ (unless a medical exemption applies)
  • There are no travel restrictions between Metro Melbourne and Regional Victoria.
  • Shared equipment must be cleaned between users.
  • Players are encouraged to practice the COVIDSafe principles

 

The clubhouses will only be open for Competition and will need to follow the above rules

Mill Park Tennis Club is happy to announce the courts will be open for casual playing from tomorrow 1st October 2021.

Thanks to all Members and Casual Users of our facility for the patience shown during these difficult times.

Below are the current restrictions that have been provided to ensure we can reopen by Tennis Vic and Whittlesea Council

Please ensure everyone checks in using the Service Victoria App.

Note Due to Current Curfews, bookings have been limited to 8:30 pm

Recreational tennis

Recreational tennis can resume;

  • Singles play can return for two people for participants who are not fully vaccinated.
  • Doubles play can return for four people from no more than two households for fully vaccinated participants. Participants must carry proof of vaccination and may be required to show this at any time.
  • In the instance where a person has obtained certification from a medical practitioner that the person is unable, due to a medical contraindication, to receive a dose, or a further dose, of a COVID-19 vaccine; they are classified as an excepted person and are classified as fully vaccinated for the categories outlined above.
  • Competition is not permitted.

General conditions

  • Players must reside within 15km of the tennis facility that they are playing at and exercise activity can be for up to four hours within curfew hours.
  • Maximum venue numbers are limited to the above group sizes per court.
  • Face coverings are to be worn except if a medical exception applies. They can be removed when participating.
  • All tennis venues must have Service Victoria QR code check-in signage clearly displayed in a prominent location and all venue attendees must check in.

Pavilions

Indoor facilities, including toilets, must remain closed at all times.

Coaching

The coaching team will be in contact directly to inform you of the structure of lessons and current restrictions.

Tennis Coaches fall under the Personal Training classification and follow the newly established COVID-19 Vaccinated Activities Directions.

  • Group coaching can return with two people plus a coach (for participants and the coach who are not fully vaccinated).
  • Group coaching can return with five people plus a coach (for participants and the coach who are all fully vaccinated). The coach must sight evidence of vaccination for all five people and record this information.
  • Participants younger than 12 years of age are treated as a fully vaccinated person.

Junior Singles Club Championship

After the postponement of our Junior Club Championships. Melbourne’s weather turned it on for Sunday’s event.
The day was filled with some great tennis and the results are

B Boys – Winner Sidhaarth Shukla – defeated – Devasish Pradeep 6/4
C boys – Winner Vettri Sivapalan – defeated – Isaac Liu – 6/4
A Girls – Winner Sarah Ray – defeated – Anuki Abeysinghe – 6/2 6/0
B Girls – Winner Chloe Pal – defeated – Elena Klenkoska – 6/3

Changes to Restrictions

As per the State Government’s recent announcements, the following changes to restrictions came in to effect from Friday 18 June:

  • 25km radius limited has been lifted.
  • Community sport can resume for training and competition for all ages but is limited to the minimum number of people required to participate in and facilitate the activity (i.e) players, coaches).
  • Spectators are not allowed, although people necessary for events such as trainers, coaches, umpires, carers, parents and guardians are exempt.
  • Face coverings are no longer mandatory outdoors unless the 1.5 metres physical distancing requirement cannot be maintained.  Face coverings must be worn indoors except if an exception applies.

Access to community pavilions is granted with the following restrictions in place:

  • All attendees must sign in using the QR system
  • 1 person per 4 square metre density limits in each space applies at all times
  • Maximum of 75 people per facility as a whole applies at all times
  • Maximum of 10 people gathering in any one group applies at all times
  • Masks must be worn indoors at all times

As a result of these announcements, The Club is now open for social hitting, training and competition.

NEJTA Finals resume on Saturday 19th June.  Good Luck to all out teams competing.

Junior Club Championships are being held at Mill  Park Venue on Sunday 20th June.  for those that have registered, we will be on contact directly to inform of start times.

Lockdown continues

Due to Government and Council Restrictions, the courts remain closed unit advised, Fingers Crossed restrictions are lifted this Thursday 10th June 2021.

As a result our Junior Club Championships that have been scheduled to be held tomorrow have been postponed until Sunday the 20th June 2021.

7 Day Lockdown

As per the State Government’s announcement – from midnight tonight Victoria will go in to a 7-day lockdown until 11.59pm on Thursday 3 June.

Direction from Council’s Crisis Management Team is that ALL sporting and community facilities will be closed IMMEDIATELY for all club activity. No sanctioned activity is to proceed until further notice.

Council will continue to assess the ongoing situation and update clubs accordingly in line with Federal and State government announcements.
